Legislation:
Although there was no action in Tallahassee last week, there was plenty of excitement Thursday evening in the packed Palmetto Middle School Auditorium, where a capacity crowd of students, parents, teachers, administrators and elected officials sat riveted while Superintendent Carvalho and other district officials discussed the rollout of school capital bond projects from Pinecrest to Homestead. The Superintendent assured the crowd that the projects, initially slated to be completed over a period of seven years, would be wrapped up far more quickly, thanks to a loan that would bring first-year financing up to a total of $508 million. Questioners were assured that school safety and security would be of paramount importance in planning school renovations, and that all infrastructure upgrades necessary to the full implementation of wireless technology would be completed within the first eighteen months. Whether Palmetto High will be simply renovated, or some buildings replaced, is still uncertain, dependent on an engineering analysis that will take place in a few years. Stay tuned....

The end of the school year is approaching and the PTSA is in its way planning for one of our nicest event; "The End of year Luncheon" for all the staff at Palmetto. In this very special way is when we as parents thank everyone at the school for everything they do for our children! During the event we provide lunch and if possible a gift to everyone. Mayor’s E-blast & Community Newspaper piece:
Pinecrest Goes Green and Carbon Neutral to Help Solve Global Warming! |
To celebrate Earth Day, the Village of Pinecrest announced the carbon neutrality of the Pinecrest Municipal Center and launched a partnership with JustGreen™ Lifestyle.
Left to right: Yocelyn Gomez-Galiano- Village Manager, Irela Bagué - JustGreen Representative, Mayor Cindy Lerner, Councilmember Joseph M. Corradino, Councilmember James E. McDonald, Councilmember Bob Ross, Vice-Mayor Jeff Cutler
JustGreen Lifestyle and JustGreen Business Advantage offer residents and business owners with unique solutions to reduce their pollution output/carbon emissions through the purchase of carbon offsets. The Village of Pinecrest is dedicated to ensuring a better quality of life and a greener and cleaner environment for our residents and future generations. Neutralizing our greenhouse gas emissions through carbon offsets and investing in emission reduction projects is just one of the many ways we are working towards meeting our Green Action Plan goals. We encourage Pinecrest residents and businesses to participate in the JustGreen program and help fund green initiatives such as solar panel installations and environmental education planned for our community facilities, parks and schools. Generated from emission reduction projects, the carbon offsets through JustGreen will also help contribute to the municipality’s goal of reducing its overall greenhouse gas emissions of 7% below 1996 levels by 2014. Pinecrest residents and businesses interested in learning more or to join the program, can sign up online at:

| SUPPORT the Palmetto Senior High Brick donation program |

|
Now is the time to purchase your personalized brick. We are getting ready to lay the bricks down before the end of the school year and want to make sure everyone has had the opportunity to honor a student, alumni, teacher, coach, or friend. When you visit Palmetto High pay attention to the bricks that other parents have purchased in order to honor someone special or someone that has made a difference with their child at Palmetto. Your brick will be proudly displayed at the entrance of Miami Palmetto Senior High School and will be there for many generations to come. To purchase bricks, visit our webpage or if you have any questions, please contact Cyndi Eisenberg at 786-286-6824 or gdesea@aol.com.

| Host Families Wanted: |
This is to inform you of a new opportunity that has presented itself to Palmetto Senior High. We have been selected to host up to 10 students from China next year. These students will be attending our school for their senior year and graduating. In order for this to happen these students need "host families" to live with for the entire school year. If you think that you might be interested in hosting one of these students or if you know of someone who may be interested, please let either Dr. Harley or Mr. Nerenberg know as soon as possible. Host families do not have to have students who attend this school. More specific information can be provided upon request. |
